Today was Family Day in Ontario, a new statutory holiday to encourage families to spend some time together. So what is a family supposed to do in the middle of February? Well we took a trip to a local pioneer village, Westfield Heritage Village. The village has a collection of over 35 historical buildings set out over 324 acres. The centre hosts a number of events through the year. For Family Day they opened the gates and invited families in for free admission.
Thomas had fun running around the buildings but protested profusely whenever we entered one. He’d much rather check out the steam locomotive made in 1910 and now resting on tracks at the village. Much to his disappointment the train is inoperable. He desperately wanted a ticket to ride on the train, however he soon overcame that once he got his chops around a big sucker!

This timber-framed house was built in 1827 by William Edmundson.
Cathcart School No. 24
The old school from Brant County was built in 1845.
The size of the logs are 24″ high and 10″ deep. Incredible!
T. H.& B. 103 Locomotive
This steam locomotive was built in Montreal for the Toronto, Hamilton and Buffalo Railway After many years of service, this mighty locomotive moved to the Westfield in the early 1970’s.
Thomas was in awe with the “BIG” train.
He really wanted to get inside the caboose.
